How to Apply

Music Application Requirements

Four Steps

All prospective music majors must apply and be accepted to Carson-Newman University and successfully complete an audition with the Music Department to be fully admitted as a music major. We encourage future music majors to schedule an audition as soon as possible—even if their Carson-Newman application is still in progress.

Who is required to audition, and how are auditions scheduled?

All applicants (including transfer students) must pass an audition to become a music major. Auditions are scheduled via the Music Audition Reservation Form. Reservation Form ↗

How to apply for a music minor?

Auditioning for the music minor also requires a successful audition. Repertoire requirements are identical to the requirements for music majors. Students who wish to apply for a music minor should schedule an audition via the Music Audition Reservation Form. Reservation Form ↗

How do I apply for scholarship?

Everyone who auditions as a music major is automatically considered for talent scholarships. No additional application is necessary. Auditions must be completed before the deadline for full-tuition scholarship consideration.

I am already enrolled at C-N but I would like to change my major or add a minor. How do I apply?

Current students who wish to become a music major or add a minor requires a successful audition. Students should schedule an audition via the Music Audition Reservation Form. Reservation Form ↗

Is an accompanist provided?

An accompanist is provided, free of charge, for all voice auditions on campus. Rehearsal time will be scheduled prior to your audition. Please bring neat score copies, in a book or organized in a binder, in the appropriate key(s). Students may bring their own accompanist to the audition if they wish. Classical instrumental auditions will be unaccompanied.
